Reflections

We had another great day in Room 181!  It has been great getting to know the students and we have begun working on your UOI - How We Organize Ourselves.  Students are doing a great job with connecting their prior understanding of organization and order to our current unit.  Students have also spent time working to develop their understanding of what it means to be an IB learner.

One important piece of being an IB learner is the element of reflection.  Students are required at the end of the day to reflect upon their learning.  We had a discussion in class that this reflection should be about who they are as learners, actual content knowledge, and knowledge of the way they can have an impact on the world. Many students need to work on explaining the activities of the day.  Please encourage your child to write things down that describe what they did and the reasons behind the activities.  For example, some students are writing things like "I was good"; "I did a math worksheet"; or "I didn't get in trouble". It is important they explain why/what they learned from completing their work.  It would be great if you could write back to them each day.  Also, please be sure to sign the Reflection Blog.

This reflection is an important part of the IB Action Cycle.  As part of the IB action cycle, students are to reflect on the local and global consequences of their learning, to make choices based on these reflections, and act in responsible and meaningful ways.

Looking forward to some great reflecting tomorrow!  Have a great night.
