About Mrs. Prophet

I am excited for another great year on Fifth Avenue. This is my 7th year teaching fifth grade in Decatur. Prior to moving to Decatur, I taught third, fourth, and fifth grade in Jonesboro, GA, and seventh/eighth-grade Mathematics in Nashville, TN.

I am originally from Poughkeepsie, NY, but I traveled a long way from home to college. I went to Indiana University for my undergraduate education. I have a Bachelor of Science in Elementary Education. I also have a Juris Doctorate from Georgia State University. I also hold a gifted endorsement.

In my spare time,  I LOVE to go swimming.  I also enjoy running, but I take a break from that every summer. My favorite place to be year-round is in the pool. When I'm not participating in sports, I love watching them. During the fall, I spend Saturdays watching college football with my 9-year-old son and my husband. In the winter, we are crazy Hoosier basketball fans!

I also love to read!  My favorite genre is dystopian fiction like Divergent and The Giver. I decided to challenge myself in 2020, so I made a goal to read 115 books, and I have already read more than 60 books. Check out my reading list at https://www.goodreads.com/user/show/2055085-angie-prophet . My favorite author is Jason Reynolds, and I love Ghost, Patina, and Sunny.

I truly believe that education is a civil rights issue, and I will be working with students to help them understand how to fight for just and fair policies and procedures in their lives. We will be tackling some very challenging periods in history and it is important for students to understand the impact that education can have on the ability to effect change in our world.

This year will be truly a new adventure for all of us as we begin the school year in a digital format. We will work together to build a strong digital classroom community. I'm looking forward to getting to know all of you and your families. I can't wait to learn about you and your family. I am super excited for our new adventure to begin!
