ELA Practice
Students need to write more than 1 sentence in response to these prompts. These are intended to be answered with a paragraph/essay. They need to use the text to support their answers. Students should also be reminded to use the writing process even though they are typing their responses to the prompts on the iPad.
One way for students to show that they are directly quoting, paraphrasing, or providing evidence is by using sentence stems.
Some examples of these stems are:
In the text the author states______________
The story stated ___________________
I know this because___________________
For example__________________
The author says______________
In paragraph # _____, it says
The graphic showed ____________
Also, don't forget that you can practice summarizing non-fiction on newsela.com.
