New Year's Day (Not Exactly)

Hello Everyone and Welcome to 2015!

I hope everyone had a wonderful break, and I'm super excited to begin 2015!  Thank you so much for all the individual gifts!

New Studies

Social Studies - We will be doing a short research project on the "Roaring 20s".  This will give us the opportunity to look ahead in order to understand World War I.  We will also be using the information we learn this week to analyze the impact that World War I had on the United States in the coming weeks.  Additionally, this will help us connect our learning to our current UOI ("How We Express Ourselves").

Science - We will begin studying states of matter this week.  Students worked on a puzzle today that used learner profile traits.  The purpose of this activity was to ensure that students understand that the parts of the learner profile make up the whole student which is very similar to atoms making up matter.

Math - We will continue working on fractions in math for the next six weeks.  This week we are focusing on the relationship between fractions and division.

ELA - We are focusing on text structures this week in reading.  Students will be able to explain how a series of chapters, scenes, or stanzas fits together to provide the overall structure of a particular story, drama, or poem.

New Info
Tybee - If you have not turned in your Tybee paperwork and payment, please do so as soon as possible.

Digital Portfolios - All students will have a digital portfolio set-up through google.  We are in the process of setting this up, but it will be a great, reliable way for students to submit assignments at home and at school.

Student/Parent Conferences - We will have parent/student conferences at the end of February.  Please check back for more information.

Jobs - Student will be able to apply for new jobs this week.  Applications are due on Friday.

Here's to a great week!

Mrs. Prophet
